Grade 4-7–The story of how Nantu leaves his wife to travel to heaven after he discovers her greediness and deception is retold in English, Spanish, and Achuar. Nantu ultimately turns into the moon while Auju is transformed into the lazy Potoo Bird. This picture-book version of the tale comes from a leader of these indigenous people who live in the Amazon rain forest of Ecuador. Achuar students used watercolor and pastels to create the illustrations. Explanations of various objects in the paintings offer additional information about the people's environment and culture. The publication seems designed to help fund initiatives to help the Achuar preserve the rainforest and their way of life. While the goal is commendable, the book itself has little to entice independent readers. Teachers might find uses as part of a unit on folklore, geography, anthropology, or Spanish.–Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University, Mankato Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
